The Legacy of the 19th Amendment: Trailblazers on the Bench

On August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment. With that act, women across America gained the constitutional right to vote. The 19th amendment also created an opening for work to begin on greater equality for women.
To celebrate the 100-year anniversary of this historic achievement, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye sits down with 3 trailblazing women, Ninth Circuit Judge Mary Schroeder, 4th District Court of Appeal Administrative Presiding Justice Judith McConnell and retired 2nd District Court of Appeal Presiding Justice Candace Cooper.
These pioneering women will tell their personal stories, discuss the barriers they confronted, the obstacles they faced and the hurdles they overcame. They worked separately and together with others to help break down barriers, change perceptions and make our judicial branch more just and inclusive.
